Valentin Elias Renner (b. 1998 in Ulm) is a contemporary artist specializing in the technique of string art. Five years ago, he moved from southern Germany to Hamburg, where he has since lived and worked. His artistic career began in 2022, when he presented his work for the first time as part of a group exhibition. This experience ignited a creative fire that led him into an intensive phase of artistic and personal development. Since 2023, he has been working as a freelance artist.

Renner’s first impulse for his current practice dates back to 2016, when he experimented with an interactive world map made of nails and threads. From this early experiment, he developed an artistic language that he has refined over the years to the highest level of precision and expressiveness.

His works are created through a meditative, highly precise process in which thousands of nails and threads are stretched across wooden panels. Through this technique, he generates visual worlds oscillating between order and chaos, drawing viewers into a vortex of rhythmic structures and visual vibrations. The resulting moiré effect amplifies this experience, opening up a unique, almost immersive depth.

Renner’s series – including Order and Chaos, Spectra, Nota, and Strata – reflect both philosophical questions and personal stages of life. Their full impact is revealed only in direct encounter: the works demand presence, as their spatial dimension cannot be adequately captured digitally.

Today, Valentin Elias Renner is among the defining voices of a young generation of artists who merge analog precision, a nature-inspired aesthetic, and contemporary inquiry. His work has now also gained recognition beyond Germany, placing him on the international stage.
